Clothespin Napkin Holder
This charming napkin holder is crafted from clothespins and painted to resemble a watermelon, bringing a vibrant touch of summer to your dining table!

Let's Get Started

STEP 1:

A)    Take apart 28 clothespins.

B)    Cut a 1 1/2" circle from a scrap of cardboard. Tip: Use the template provided, if needed.

STEP 2:

A)    Hot glue two halves of a clothespin together, back to back, to create an accent. Make a total of 10 accent pairs.

B)    Hot glue two clothespin pieces side by side to create a base. Make a total of two base pieces.

C)   Tape the cardboard circle to a mat with ruler guides so that the center of the circle is lined up with a vertical guideline.

D)   Lay an accent pair of clothespins on the mat so that the bottom rests against the cardboard circle and the clothespins are vertical along the guideline.

STEP 3:

A)    Begin hot gluing 3 single clothespin halves on each side of the center accent piece. Face the clothespin halves in the same direction as the center accent clothespin. Tip: Use the cardboard circle as a guide for placement of the bottoms of the clothespins.

B)    Add an accent clothespin piece to each side, followed by 3 more clothespin halves.

C)   Add another accent clothespin piece to each side, followed by 3 more clothespin halves..

D)   Repeat Steps 3A through 3C to create the other half of the napkin holder.     

STEP 4:

A)    Hot glue one of the base pieces to the bottom of one side of the napkin holder.

B)    Hot glue the other base piece to the other side of the napkin holder.

C)   Let the glue set up and harden.

STEP 5:

A)    Line up the two halves of the napkin holder and apply hot glue along the two base pieces.

B)    Press the two halves of the napkin holder together.

C)   Let the glue set up and harden.

STEP 6:

A)    Paint the bottom ⅔ of the napkin holder pink, including both sides and the base. Create an arch with the paint to mimic the curve of a watermelon slice. Let dry.

STEP 7:

A)    Paint a white band above the pink on both sides. Let dry.

STEP 8:

A)    Paint a green band above the white on both sides. Let dry.

STEP 9:

A)    Paint a darker green on the tips of the clothespins to add depth to the paint. Let dry.

STEP 10:

A)    Use a black paint marker to color the pear gems and make “watermelon seeds.” Let dry.

B)    Make a total of 16 “watermelon seeds.”

C)   Hot glue the “watermelon seeds” to both sides of the napkin holder.

D)   Let the glue set up and harden.
